"A bride on her wedding day with no smile.  Laughter and jokes with friends, and no way to show the joy inside.  Being a happy outgoing person full of fear at meeting new people.  Celebrating a daughter’s sixteenth birthday and not being able to express through a smile how proud a parent you are.  All these things were me.  For three years, I had developed another personality to hide the fact that I was ashamed of my smile.

I have always had problems with my teeth, from my teenage years on.  I had many bad experiences with dentists so my first instinct when I started having trouble was to live with it rather than have it fixed.  Over time, I knew my teeth were not getting any better.  I would notice a cavity or two, but I just learned how to adjust.  I wouldn’t eat or drink anything cold.  I would even brush my teeth with lukewarm water so I wouldn’t have to feel pain.  In just a few years, my teeth started to chip, decay and discolor.  I initially put off doing anything about because I thought it could just be handled in one short trip to the dentist and I could just get it fixed later.  Then, one chip and one cavity turned into to many chipped teeth, numerous cavities and gum disease.  By that point, the enormity of the work that needed to be done struck a deep fear in me.  I had never liked going to the dentist.  I had experienced many painful moments, and had even had dentists make me feel ashamed and worse than I already did because my teeth were so bad.  I just resigned myself to having bad teeth, that’s who I was and if it meant that I wouldn’t smile again then I could adjust to that too.

Then, one day I received a mailer from Gentle Dental Care & Spa.  I could tell that this place was not your typical dentist’s office. What impressed me was the way they communicated the importance of patient care and comfort in their practice.  I had never heard of a dentist who insisted that their patient’s comfort was foremost.  What a concept.  A Dentist for people who don’t like going to the dentist.  I went for my initial consultation and introduction to their office.  From the moment I walked in the door, I was welcomed and felt at ease.  By the time I left, I knew that if I were ever going to get my teeth repaired, this would be the place and these would be the people to do it.  Eventually my appointment was set to start the process of doing all that needed to be done to fix my smile.

Here I sit, the day after receiving my permanent crowns and restoration, smiling as I write this.  Dr. Dallmann and her staff have given me back what I had lost.  Not just a smile, but they have given me back everything that is me… my humor, my outgoing personality and my happiness.  I am now able to show the world the person that I really am.  I have self-confidence that I haven’t had in years.   I have found a dentist for life.  I am no longer afraid to go to an appointment.  Now that I have gotten this work done, and I have a beautiful smile to show the world, I look forward to maintaining it, to grow old gracefully with a smile on my face, and I owe it all to Dr. Dallmann and every single one of the ladies on her staff.  They have impacted my life in such a wonderful way.

I urge anyone who may be leery about going to the dentist, anyone who has let the look of their teeth control his or her lives, don’t give up, don’t make adjustments for it and don’t let it become commonplace for you.  Instead, do something about it, let Gentle Dental Care help you find your smile again.

Sedation Dentistry can make things easier

I've never had any bad experiences with dentists but have never liked going to them.  I hate having my mouth messed with, to the point that as soon as my pediatric dentist stopped seeing me at age 21, I stopped going to the dentist.  I figured if no one was going to make me then I wouldn't go.  Now three years later, I started having some gum problems and decided I needed to go.  Sedation dentistry with Dr. Dallmann and the rest of the staff was the perfect solution.  I took a little pill an hour before my appointment and don't remember much after that :)  I got all most of the work done in one visit but without all the anxiety and stress I would have had without the sedation.  The funny thing about the sedation was I learned that I snore :)  The entire staff is wonderful; and everyone is willing to listen to any concerns you might have.  Now I really wish I hadn't put off going to the dentist for so long, but I'm very glad I chose Dr. Dallmann.

PS - To anyone reading this and considering trying the sedation, trust me, no matter how you think you feel when you're waking up after the treatment, you won't remember the conversations you have with anyone in the room!

"As a person who required extensive work and restoration, I am grateful that sedation is offered by my dentist.  If I would have had to endure the pain of the unsedated treatments, I probably would still have cavities, chipped teeth and gum diesease.  Not to mention the time that it would take and the many days I would have to take off work to get all that work done.  I was able to painlessly have my teeth repaired in just two visits verses months and months filled with many appointments.  There would have been no way I could have accomidated my work schedule to allow that much time off.  And, even if I could have taken that much time off, I'm not sure I would have followed through with it if I had to sit, fully awake and aware for those long appointments."

"I am a patient of Dr. Tara Dallmann, and I take advantage of sedation dentistry when I have major work done on my teeth. I suffer from a very bad gag reflex. When I have work done without sedation, it is a harrowing experience both for the dentist, the dental assistants, and myself. When I gag I jump, and my hands go instinctively to the source of the problem. I am 6’ 3’’ and weigh 260 lbs., dentists do not want me jumping and flaying my arms about. Sedation dentistry is a great win win situation for me and the dental team.   Sedation dentistry probably Saved My Life. While I was under sedation Dr. Dallmann observed that I had a severe case of sleep apnea. I went to a sleep disorder specialist. During my evaluation night I stopped breathing over 400 times, sometime for as long as 45 seconds. Now I am on a bipap machine and getting the sleep I need. Sleep apnea was the cause of death of Hall of Fame football player Reggie White. I had a major health problem that would not have been recognized if I was under general anesthesia."
