Frequently Asked Dental Questions

Our patients often ask questions concerning a variety of subjects involving their oral health and our office policies. So, we have provided a list of common questions and answers especially for you. If the question you have is not on our list, please feel free to either call or ask us in person. We would love to help you!

What does your complimentary consult offer?

Our Complimentary Consult Offer is a fantastic way for our new patients to experience why Gentle Dental Care is different than any other dental office they may have visited in the past. Patients get the opportunity to tour our beautiful facility, meet with Dr. Dallmann and her Team, discuss their needs and what they are looking for in a dental office. If the patient feels we are everything they are looking for, they can then make an appointment for a comprehensive exam with Dr. Dallmann, which most of our patients say is the most thorough exam they have ever experienced.

What different payment options do you provide?

Because your dental health is important to us, we provide a number of different ways you can pay for your treatment.

We accept cash, check or credit card, and offer a 5% bookkeeping courtesy when you pay for your treatment at least 72 hours prior to your appointment. If you prefer, you can choose comfortable monthly payments with CareCredit, which spreads your interest-free payments over 3, 6 or 12 months. There are also longer-term, low-interest rate payment options available so you can get the treatment you need now and pay over time.

Although we do not accept assignment of insurance benefits, we are happy to work with you to make sure you have everything you need to file a claim with your insurance carrier. We want to help our patients maximize their insurance benefits.

If you want to phase your treatments, we'll work with you to prioritize the procedures you need. Your proposed treatment plan and costs, including your payment options, will always be clearly explained in writing.

How does Dr. Dallmann keep up-to-date on current materials?

Dr. Dallmann and her team understand the importance of keeping up with advances in the field. During the year, they attend many continuing dental education and advanced training courses, well above the number of continuing education credits required by law. Dr. Dallmann carefully chooses the continuing education programs she attends, taking courses from the best dental instructors in the country on a wide range of topics. As part of their job requirements, team members take a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education programs each year.

What do I do if I have an emergency and the office is closed?

Part of the excellent service we provide is being available to our current patients of record after hours. Dr. Dallmann gives patients a phone number to use to reach her in case of a dental emergency. She either answers the phone herself, or calls patients back within a short time of receiving their message.

What makes you different from other dental practices I could visit?

The level of personal care and attention that you receive in our office is truly exceptional. We get to know you as a person and remember your preferences for receiving care each time you come to our office. We are always focused on giving uninterrupted time to all of our patients, making sure to address any concerns and answer all questions our patients may have. You will never feel rushed at our office. In addition, we truly live up to our name by continually striving to make each and every dental experience as comfortable as possible.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Absolutely! Bleeding gums are an indication of periodontal (gum) disease. Although this condition is common, it is not normal or healthy. Bleeding gums signal an active infection, which, if left untreated, makes you more susceptible to cardiovascular disease. Periodontal disease has been linked to heart attack or stroke.

If you have bleeding gums, it's imperative that you seek treatment as soon as possible.

I really don't like visiting the dentist. Is there anything you can do for me?

We have many ways of helping your relax before and during your dental appointment. If you are fearful of even entering the office, we can provide a low-dosage sedative you can take before you come in.

During dental treatment, you can choose from several anxiety control options, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or computerized anesthesia. Another option is either oral or IV sedation, which allows you to "snooze" during dental procedures. Oral and IV sedation are a safe solution not only for anxious patients, but also for patients with a strong gag reflex or those who prefer to have extensive dental work completed in 1-2 visits due to busy schedules. These are safe, effective methods allowing you to get the treatment you need without stress.

I want to make my front teeth look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

There are several ways that we can help you get the smile you'd like, including Invisalign invisible braces. With Invisalign, our patients can get the straight smile they've always wanted by wearing a series of clear "aligners" that move teeth without traditional metal braces. Others can't even tell our patients are wearing them. Another possibility is "instant" orthodontics. Using veneers, crowns or recontouring, we can change your appearance in as few as two visits, without having to move teeth at all.

I have a temporary crown in my mouth. What happens if it comes off or breaks?

If your temporary crown comes off or breaks, you can usually use toothpaste or denture adhesive to resecure it. The crown will normally snap back into place. It is important that temporaries not be left off but are replaced as soon as possible. Call our Independence dental office or contact Dr. Dallmann on her emergency line if you need further assistance.

How do I know when it's time to come in for a checkup?

As partners in your dental health, we'll send your post card reminder about two weeks before your recommended appointment. Also, we make follow-up phone calls to let you know when it's time to schedule your next cleaning and checkup appointment. An average, healthy person typically benefits from a professional cleaning and check up every six months. For our patients with a history of gum disease we usually recommend a visit every three months.

Will I be charged if I need to cancel an appointment?

Because of our emphasis on personal attention, Dr. Dallmann schedules just one patient at a time. Therefore, we ask you to give us at least 72 hours notice if you need to cancel an appointment.

If you cancel your appointment with less than 72 hours notice, we will ask you to prepay to reserve your next appointment time with a non-refundable deposit. Please note that we aren't in the office Friday-Sunday and we ask that Monday appointments be changed by Thursday at 12:00pm.
